Everything she reads ....in January
I am pretty sure that you know that we all know that Netflix has a brand new series based on a heroic fantasy book series....Yes...I am talking about The Witcher", starring among others Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra and Freya Allan.
This series created for Netflix is based on the book series of the same name by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski.
The main character, Geralt of Rivia known as the Witcher, is a solitary monster hunter, transformed by magic and dedicated to his tasks. He struggles to find his place in a world and time when normal people often prove more wicked than monsters and beasts. Through his adventures he meets his friend Jaskier, the bard, his lover and powerful mage Yennefer of Vengerberg, and a young princess with a special gift.
And I am currently reading the first book in the series...and i certainly advise you to read it too if you have not started it yet.
The structure is linear, the plot is fun and the interractions of Geralt with the different protagonists is most of the time full of wit.
Of course there is a love story but so far it is not a succesfull one. Geralt and Yennefer fight when they meet or they make love and have fun. Jaskier, the bard, is clearly the comic relief character.
There are lots of references to our old fairy tales like Snow White or Beauty and the Beast but with a trick which make these retelling of fairy tales really interesting.
The female character in this first book are reaaly strong-minded and know how to strike down by words and swords as well. I kind of like that...strong female characters.
I am not yet finished with this book but I already sow the whole series on Netflix and loved it too.
I'll come back later with further comments and remarks.
