Everything she reads: The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle

The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton

This novel is a murder story with a fantastic twist. It is a roller-coaster story in which you will question everything you read about the settings, the various characters and of course the murderer.
Some readers might feel a bit lost but you must stick to the story and reach the final which would without any doubt leave you speechless. At least, I was.

I will try to sum up the story for you without giving too much away. Thus, this will not be a full summary but rather hints for you to read this book.

Our hero, Aiden Bishop, finds himself in the woods surrounding a crumbling mansion, named Blackheath House and owned by the Hardcastle family. Terrified and confused, he arrives at Blackheath to find a weekend ball in progress for the birthday of the daughter of his friend, Evelyn Hardcastle. For everyone inside the house, he is Sebastian Bell, a doctor and friend of the family, but at this point, Aiden has no idea who he really is or why he is there. He has a form of amnesia.
What follows is a murder-mystery of epic proportions. Aiden is swapping body with the guests and wakes up every morning in a different body to relive the same exact day. It soon comes out that Aiden must solve the murder of Evelyn Hardcastle in order to leave the house. Aiden is trapped in a horrible tale of murder, embodying hideous hosts who could all be the murderer whilst fighting to keep his own sanity, and he is taking you along in his walking nightmare.
The whole story is told in the present tense which gives the story a stronger punch. We are living the day at the same time as Aiden. Yet it soon emerges that he is not the only one to reappear in different host bodies. There is a sort of competition going on between several characters and only one will ever escape the house, the one who succeeds to find the murderer of Evelyn Hardcastle. Aiden has 8 days to find out or the process will start all over again: a body per day, the death of Evelyn every day and a hunt for the truth.
The book is so full of twists, turns, shocks and revelations that it is impossible to summarize it properly.
It is a terrifying Groundhog Day alternate universe, for the world the author creates is so convincing that you lose yourself in it immediately. Answers are revealed in a breathtaking series of brilliant revelations as the book reaches its end. It is a highly enjoyable reading if you can resist the multiple perspectives, false traps and questions. And no, I will not give you the ending!

Enjoy your reading.

Love,
