January Writing Prompts

# 2 – Leftovers by Reading Freak

The penthouse was finally calm. After a frantic New Year’s party that went on and on for hours, the numerous residents of the Lark Tower welcomed quietness and peace as true friends. And the residents really needed some rest after a night like this one.

But the penthouse was not empty. Some party animals were sleeping on the blue couch and the comfortable leather sofas. Others had put some cushions on the floor and were heavily snoring. The beautiful wool rugs and the various tables across the living room were littered with empty bottles and half-full champagne flutes. The delicious exotic food and petits fours of yesterday evening were still on some trays, untouched and unarmed.
The party had been a real success with delirious music and professional dancers. Yesterday evening, this penthouse was the place to be.

In a moment, the housekeeper and the cleaning team will take over the place and erase all evidence of the party of the year.
Upstairs the rooms were full of dreamers, of night-standers and, for some few unfortunate, of broken hearts.  A lonely guy was even sleeping in a bathtub. He was dreaming of that beautiful girl he had met a few hours before.  She had not wanted his phone number though.

Down the hall, the service stairs lead to a large modern kitchen with a central island. The place looked like someone had wreaked havoc. The doors of many wood cabinets were open and trays full of leftovers covered every possible surface of the central island. Empty bottles of wine, beer and champagne were stored in the sink and the bin was crying for help.

At some point during the night, someone had the bright idea of setting Tupperwares and takeaway boxes out. Who would be in charge of putting the leftovers inside the boxes was still uncertain or undecided.  There were plenty of leftovers and numerous bottles of unopened wine and champagne were silently waiting to be put away until the next dinner or party.

The Tupperwares are going to be more than useful and surely they will need to be brought back.  A good reason to meet again and to party once more. This could be a new advertisement..."Let's eat, let's party and please bring me back home!".

2020 opened in the most delicious way.
